The BCL 1-KA is an active receiving antenna that combines a high-capacitance antenna element with an integrated amplifier built into the antenna mount. The amplifier ensures excellent impedance matching between the high-impedance antenna element and the 50 Ω downlead cable across an extremely wide bandwidth. It is optimized for minimal noise, with the sensitivity of the amplifier carefully adjusted so that the noise generated by the antenna and receiver is always lower than the noise picked up by the antenna. The amplifier is protected against RF overload and high voltage discharges, while its large dynamic range ensures excellent cross and intermodulation properties.
The antenna includes an earthing wire that provides a low-loss connection to ground for RF signals, preventing noise from external interference on the coaxial cable. This earthing wire is AC-coupled, effectively preventing electrolytic corrosion. DC power is supplied to the antenna via the 50 Ω coaxial cable, with the included junction box that can be mounted near the receiving station. This junction box separates DC and RF signals and can be powered from the same 12 V DC power supply as the receiver. It is protected against accidental polarity reversal and filtered to avoid interference.
The junction box features FME connectors for the antenna and receiver ports, and it includes a 1-meter FME cable with an FME-UHF connector for connecting to the receiver, as well as an FME crimp connector for the downlead cable (RG 58). The BCL 1-KA is designed to endure harsh weather and environmental conditions, making it ideal for both land and marine applications. The antenna comes with the "SM-MA" mast mounting bracket for easy installation.
